Public Goods and DeFi Communities
Octant Clarified project by orbyline Survey Analysis
We recently conducted a survey to assess our audience’s familiarity with DeFi, decentralized ecosystems, and public goods. Our goal was to identify key areas of confusion and address them through clear and accessible content. This initiative is part of our project, Octant Clarified, which aims to simplify these concepts for the creative industry. We want to ensure that our audience not only understands these ideas but also realizes that they can actively participate in these ecosystems.
The survey results provided valuable insights, serving as a crucial starting point for our project. Since we found the findings particularly interesting, we wanted to share them with you as well.
GENERAL OUTLOOK

The results aligned with our initial assumptions about our audience. An interesting takeaway was the diverse age range of participants, which provided valuable perspective. However, the findings confirmed that our creative community is largely unfamiliar with these concepts and unaware of the benefits they offer. Let’s take a closer look Into our participants’ characteristics, focusing on their occupations and age range.

General Contribution levels
As shown below, our 19 responses reveal that most of our audience is not part of any DeFi community and has little knowledge of public goods. Additionally, some participants may have misunderstood the question and provided incorrect answers when asked to specify a community.

Octant Awareness Level
We also asked our audience whether they know about Octant, if they are part of it, and, if so, for how long. The results show that most respondents are not familiar with Octant. However, those who are involved have been contributing for a significant period, which is a positive sign.

Bridging the Knowledge Gaps
Our analysis reveals that the main reason our audience is not actively engaged or deeply involved in these concepts is a lack of information. Many are unsure about what DeFi, public goods, and decentralization truly entail or whether participating is safe and beneficial for them.
Key uncertainties include the mechanisms of DeFi, fund management, and transparency in decentralized systems. This highlights the need for clear, simple, and transparent communication to help our audience better understand these concepts and feel confident in exploring them.

Final Take
It is clear that the main barrier preventing the creative industry from accessing the benefits of these ecosystems and communities is the lack of effective communication. Either the necessary information is missing, or it is presented in a way that is too complex for creatives to engage with or trust.
Interestingly, most are unaware of the many benefits available to them, while some believe they cannot participate simply because they are creatives rather than tech experts. This insight has reinforced our approach—our content needs to be simple, stripping away unnecessary complexity. By focusing on clear communication and visual storytelling, we aim to make this information accessible so that all creatives can take advantage of the opportunities available to them.
